Mater Ecclesiae Preparatory School, MEPS now Mater Ecclesiae school (MES), was established by the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church-a local Institution of Sisters in the Catholic Diocese of Ho in 1993. The school is located at Sokode Gbogame in the Ho Municipality. The school was started with 30 kindergarten pupils comprising 20 girls and 10 boys in the Sisters Convert precisely Madonna House.
The objective for the establishment of the Primary School was to help give the children within the local community a higher educational standard because the academic standard of public schools in the rural areas were gradually falling compared to those in the urban centers. The results of pupils in the rural areas were most often very poor because of lack of effective teaching and poor learning environment. This gave the rise to many drop outs in our community after the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Some parents even now do not take good care of their children at their tender ages before sending them to school. All they do is to give money to the children to find their own food as they themselves go about their own business hence the malnutrition and truancy, in some cases, resulting in immoral lives of some children, increase in waywardness and teenage pregnancy in the rural areas among others
In order to cater for these pressing needs; the Sisters saw the need to establish a boarding school to offer the children in the rural areas the opportunity to have a better education and to give them good moral training both socially and spiritually.
Creating opportunities for girls who believe have been called to serve God through a Consecrated way of life.
